Synopsis

Synopsis

Synopsis

Proof of life is an American film from 2000 about the work of a mediator in a case of abduction by rebels.

The film is inspired by the documentary “Adventures in the Ransom Trade” by William Prochnau via mediators in kidnapping cases, and by Thomas Hargrove book “Long March to Freedom”, an autobiographical tale of a kidnapping in Colombia.

As project manager Peter Bowman is working on behalf of an oil company in the (fictional) South American country Tecala at a dam. For him, the humanitarian benefits of the project in the foreground, while the company for the financial return is important. But the company gets into and is financed by a large oil company bought up. The further construction of the dam is in danger. Stressed by this professional setback Peter also gets together with his wife Alice in dispute over their future. While Alice back to his homeland and wants to handle a miscarriage, Peter wants to fight the dam project. On the way to the office he is kidnapped by ELT, a group of rebels who are in their formation time Marxist slogans on banners had written, but now only with drug cultivation and kidnappings earned their money.

Terry Thorne, a professional mediator, should negotiations with the kidnappers record. There he also kidnapped the German priest Erich Kessler know and learns that another hostage, an Italian, will be held there. The two companies an escape attempt. Erich can escape, Peter will be sought and brought back to the camp.

Dino, another professional investigator who is responsible for the release of an Italian to reach the camp wants, whose location is now known, with the help of mercenaries storm. Since its negotiations with the kidnappers fail, Terry agrees to this plan and takes action to actively participate. It succeeds them, the prisoners by force to liberate.
