Synopsis

proof_of_life_film Proof of life is an American film from 2000 about the work of a mediator in a case of abduction by rebels.

The film is inspired by the documentary “Adventures in the Ransom Trade” by William Prochnau via mediators in kidnapping cases, and by Thomas Hargrove book “Long March to Freedom”, an autobiographical tale of a kidnapping in Colombia.

As project manager Peter Bowman is working on behalf of an oil company in the (fictional) South American country Tecala at a dam. For him, the humanitarian benefits of the project in the foreground, while the company for the financial return is important. But the company gets into and is financed by a large oil company bought up. The further construction of the dam is in danger. Stressed by this professional setback Peter also gets together with his wife Alice in dispute over their future. While Alice back to his homeland and wants to handle a miscarriage, Peter wants to fight the dam project.
