Yellow Submarine is an album by British rock band The Beatles released in early 1969. In contrast to the richness of the animated film Yellow Submarine, this album was seen as an effort grayer, and that, rather than a studio album, was just the soundtrack of the film.

With the reissue of the film in 1999, was released a new version of the album, entitled Yellow Submarine Songtrack, which included all the items contained in the film of the same name, which replaced the orchestral parts of George Martin.

At the time the album was launched, much of what it contained was not new. “Yellow Submarine” had already appeared in Revolver in August 1966. “All You Need is Love” was a hit single in 1967, an issue that had also appeared on the U.S. album Magical Mystery Tour later that year. “Only A Northern Song” was originally written for the Sgt Pepper and largely had been recorded in February 1967. “It’s All Too Much” was recorded just before Sgt Pepper came out, but was shortened (took eight minutes) for Yellow Submarine. “Hey Bulldog” (recorded in February 1968) and “All Together Now” (recorded May 1967) do seem to be written especially for the occasion, but Lennon had refused the first, recorded during the making of promotional clip of “Lady Madonna.”

Side 2 of the album Yellow Submarine had orchestral arrangements (recorded specifically for the album) by George Martin.

“Across the Universe” would be included initially in the album, but was rejected at the last minute and left aside until the disc came out in Let It Be, 1970. According to some sources, the Beatles Yellow Submarine had considered launching a five-track EP, not the score of the film but including “Across the Universe” as a bonus track.
